The Rangers seemingly have a shot at dethroning the A.L. West division leading Athletics who lead by six games. The Angels, who are 13 games back and seven games under .500 are destine to become one of the most under-achieving/expensive teams ever. Their massive payroll of 142 million dollars is the seventh highest in the league. Texas has the eighth highest payroll at 127 million but they are in contention.
Angels just lost slugger/first baseman/DH Albert Pujols to the DL (maybe for the rest of the season) and the similarly pricey right fielder Josh Hamilton in hitting .223 on the season.
The Rangers are led by Biogenesis Misfit and right fielder Nelson Cruz offensively. He has 24 homers, 71 RBIs with a .270 batting average and an OPS of .833. Third baseman Adrian Beltre, who has clubbed 22 homers leads the team in batting average (.310) and OPS (.879).
