The Arizona Diamondbacks remain tied for first with the Colorado Rockies in the NL West. The D backs put together a five-run seventh-inning on Friday night to beat the San Diego Padres 5 to 2. Arizona pitcher Brandon McCarthy improved his record to two and three and won his second straight start allowing only one run on five hits over seven innings.
The win Friday night was the first in three games for the Diamondbacks while the Padres lost their third straight.
By all accounts it has been Arizona pitching that is been responsible for keeping them in the first place tie with the Rockies in the Western division. Diamondbacks starting pitching has compiled a 2.42 ERA over the last 17 games.
