In a much needed reprieve for the Red Sox and their fans, staff ace Lon Lester delivered a Friday night gem in front of a packed house at Fenway. Lester delivered a one hit shut-out of the Blue Jays, retiring 28 batters (one less than his no-hitter in May of 2008). He threw 118 pitches in his 10th career complete game performance. His record improved to 5-0.
Lester was supported by an improved offensive showing. Dustin Pedrioa and Shane Victorino both went 2 for 3, while Jarrod Saltalamachia and Will Middlebrooks went 2 for 4 each. Daniel Nava also drove two runs across for the home team.
Toronto third baseman Maicer Izturis was the only Jays batter to reach on a hit, doubling down the left field line but ultimately being stranded at 2nd base.
Boston improved its record to 22-14 leaving them at them tied atop of the AL East.
