Twins Avoid Sweep 4-2, Tribe Streak Ends at 6

By:  Stephen Parsons

Minnesota Twins v Toronto Blue JaysThe Indians were looking to sweep division rival Minnesota.  With Cleveland being the hottest team in baseball during the win streak, all they had to do was get quality pitching and conistent hitting to extend the winning streak to 7.  Mike Pelfrey had other plans, shut down the Indians offense, and that is just what happened.

Mike Pelfrey was flat out dominant today at Progressive Field.  He Pitched 6 innings allowing only 1 run on 4 hits.  He struck out 7 and walked only 1.

In the Top of the 2nd Trevor Plouffe hit his 4th home run of the season.  Chris Parmelee scored as well giving Minnesota a 1-0 lead.

In the Bottom of the 4th, Mark Reynolds hit a sac fly to center field scroing Asdrubal Cabrera.  This put Cleveland on th board trailing 2-1.

In the Top of the 6th Justin Morneau hit a single to right field scoring Jamey Carroll.

In the Top of the 7th, Minnesota would add on another insurance run.  Joe Mauer hit a double scoring Jamey Carroll, extending the lead to 4-1 Minnesota.

In the Bottom of the 9th, with 2 outs Carlos Santana hit a home run to the bleachers, his 6th of the season.  This gave Cleveland some last minute hope, but the Tribe would fall 4-2.

Mike Pelfrey got the win, he improves to 3-3 with a 6.35 ERA.  Corey Kluber took the loss he fell to 2-1 with a 3.06 ERA.

Kluber went  5 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits.  He struck out 5 and walked 4.

Glen Perkins got the save, his 7th of the season.

Time of the game was 2 hours and 59 minutes.  Game attendance was 14,015.

My Thoughts:

Good pitching by Pelfrey was able to slow down a very consistent offense, Kluber pitched well he fell one out short of a quality strike.

Coming Up Next:

Cleveland begins a 4-game series at home against the Oakland Athletics tomorrow.

Ubaldo Jimenez who is 1-2 with a 7.13 ERA will face off against Jarrod Parker, who is 1-4 with a 7.36 ERA this season.

First pitch is at 7:05 PM ET at Progressive Field tomorrow evening.

This has been the Parsons Report.
