The Kansas City Royals made Citizens Bank Park about as joyful as Mudville on Friday as the visitors laid their version of “shock and awe” on the Phillies. Philadelphia jumped out to an early 4-0 lead until the Royals offense exploded in the top half of the 5th inning. KC went on to score 11 more runs between the 6th and 9th while shutting out the home team the remainder of the contest.
Kansas City improved their record to 2-2 in the AL Central. The Phillies fall to 1-3 in the NL East.
