With President Obama out west on a fundraising trip for congressional incumbents and the majority of congress back in their home districts for “constituent visits,” it looks like the Nationals are the only thing working in D.C. Zimmerman, Zimmerman, Werth, Harper and the rest of the 2012 NL East Division champion completed a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins 6-1 on Thursday.
Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmerman tossed six innings allowing only one run on six scattered hits. Until a second inning homer by the Marlins’ Justin Ruggiano, the Nats had held opponents to 19 scoreless innings thus far in the early season. They scored two runs in the home half of the first to take the lead when Ryan Zimmerman doubled over Ruggiano’s head to score Harper and Werth. Another run was added in the 3rd. Three more baserunners crossed the plate in the 7th inning and Nats relievers Henry Rodriguez, Tyler Clippard and Craig Stammen closed out the winless Marlins.
