Texas Ranger starter Yu Darvish threw four scoreless innings Thursday in a final pre-season exhibition game against the Mexico City Red Devils in Arlington. The Rangers racked up 19 hits including long-balls by Ian Kinsler, Nelson Cruz, Mitch Moreland and David Murphy on their way to a 12-1 trouncing of the visitors from down south.
Darvish completed a very long spring-training season throwing 17 2/3 innings and posting a 1.52 ERA. Opposing hitters could only muster a .138 average against the Texas ace who tallied 22 strike-outs and walked three batters during the Cactus League season.
Rangers’ right-hander Leonys Smith Martin is likely to get the start in the opener against the Houston Astros with Darvish starting the second game of the series on Tuesday night.
